Aon’s Captive Services Group client
conference in September is expected to draw a record 150
delegates, up by around a third on last year.
A large portion of these clients are Fortune 500 accounts,
according to chief executive Stephen
Cross. “This is an indication for us that
there has never before been such a focus on captives and the
alternative insurance market,” he said.
The
conference theme is ‘Modern ART, a changing climate’. “The
real focus of the conference is around the issue of change. In
particular, rapid and dynamic change in the risk arena,” Cross
said. “I think that the raise in our numbers is due to
the fact that this is a client event and the clients that
attend are all like-minded professionals. “Its not like
traditional conferences where there are more service providers
than clients. Some conferences have only 15% clients whereas
this has 99% plus ourselves.
“It is an
indication to me that even seasoned clients are seeking deeper
knowledge on current conditions. They want to understand the
drivers of change and not just accept a market shift after it
happens. As I said during the breakfast, its a risk managers
responsibility to ponder possible disasters, even if they make
a conscious decision to retain the exposure. One cannot ignore
anything that is going on,” Cross added. |
