“CICA 2016 Captive Market Study” Shows New Coverages Are Helping to Expand the Role of Captives

Fifty percent of participants in the Captive Insurance Companies Association “CICA 2016 Captive Market Study” indicated they are considering putting one or more new coverages in their captive in the next 12-24 months. Results of the study were released at the 2016 CICA International Conference, Think Big! Expand Your Captive’s Horizons. After a year’s hiatus the CICA Captive Market Study, returned with a new format and a broader cross section of industries and domiciles participating in the survey. Key survey highlights include: • Just over three-quarters of respondents cited cyber risk as the number one emerging and non-traditional risk that they are currently grappling with. Medical Stop Loss was second, followed by an “other” category with issues arising from the sharing economy (Uber, Airbnb, etc.) just beginning to be viewed as risk management concerns.
