New officers and directors announced for 2020-2021 CICA board of directors   

MINNEAPOLIS ─ MAR. 12, 2020 ─ Lance Abbott, president, BevCap Management, LLC, Director of BevCap Captive Group and Director/Shareholder of BevCap’s sponsored cell captive, has been elected Chair of the Board of Directors of the Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA). The board met this week via conference call in lieu of the in-person meeting normally held after the CICA International Conference, which was cancelled due to COVID-19.    

Abbott, along with his partners Joe LaMantia III and family, and Standard Sales Company, founded BevCap Management in 2008 to manage BevCap Captive Group, a newly formed homogeneous group insurance captive for beer distributors. BevCap Management has grown to manage multiple homogenous group captives in multiple domiciles, and founded BevCap Cayman, a heterogenous cell captive for medical stop loss insurance. 

Returning CICA board members are: Courtney Claflin, executive director of captive programs, University of California, Office of the President; Fredrik Finnman, group risk manager, Sandvik Group, located in Sweden; Steve McElhiney, SVP & director of reinsurance, Artex Risk Solutions, Inc., CICA board immediate past chair; Michael Scott, attorney, Law Office of Allison & Mosby-Scott; Michael Zuckerman, assistant professor, Temple University; Colin Donovan, president, STICO Mutual Insurance Company, a Risk Retention Group; and Deyna Feng, captive manager, Cummins Risk International.

CICA also elected to three-year terms:

Nicholas Hentges, co-chief executive officer of Captive Resources, LLC, a consultant to member-owned group captives. Hentges started with Captive Resources in 1993. As co-CEO, he focuses on the company’s long-term strategic plans and oversees business development, administration, finance, claims and risk control, and travel and human resources. His educational background includes a B.B.A. degree with majors in Finance and Insurance from the University of Iowa and an MBA from Drake University. He also holds the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation. 

Mary Ellen Moriarty, vice president for Property & Casualty, EIIA.  Moriarty has been actively engaged in the insurance industry for over 30 years in positions within national insurance brokerages as well as commercial insurance carriers.  Moriarty received a Bachelor of Science from Northern Illinois University, an MBA from DePaul University and a Masters of Pastoral Studies from Loyola University.  She currently holds the Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), and Associate in Captive Insurance (AIC) designations.

As previously announced, CICA also appointed to a one-year term:

Erin Hackett, senior audit manager, Crowe. Hackett brings 10 years of audit experience with commercial insurers, risk retention groups alternative insurance companies and insurance agencies and brokers. She also chairs CICA’s NEXTGen Young and New Professional’s Task Force. Hackett received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Business Administration from Saint Michaels College and an Associates in Captive Insurance (ACI) from the International Center for Captive Insurance Education.
