MINNEAPOLIS ─ March 14, 2025 – Heather McClure, JD, LLM, ACI, CPHRM, managing partner, Helio Risk, LLC, has been elected to Chair the Board of Directors of the Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA).

McClure has been actively involved in the captive insurance and risk management industry for over 25 years. Her unique experience includes that of a captive owner, managing risk operations internal to organizations for decades, and currently as a captive manager and risk consultant at Helio Risk. A CICA member for 15 years, McClure has served on the Board of Directors for four years. She was previously named as one of Captive International’s most influential women in the captive industry and was also elected as Captive Review’s U.S. Captive Risk Manager of the Year and featured on its Power 50 list. At Helio Risk, McClure provides captive management and risk consulting for clients across the US and internationally.

“Our industry has grown exponentially over the last decade. Captive insurance is no longer an ‘alternative risk financing vehicle,’ but a necessary component of a total program to most effectively manage a company’s risk.” McClure said. “CICA is the leader in providing timely, unbiased, and valuable education for captive owners and service providers, and I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues in producing that content for our industry and raising awareness of solutions to any challenges.”

In addition to McClure, the board elected Prabal Lakhanpal, senior vice president, Spring Consulting, an Alera Group Company, as Vice Chair; and Anjanette Fowler, managing director, senior vice president for insurance and specialized industries group, PNC Institutional Asset Management, as Secretary/Treasurer. Mary Ellen Moriarty, vice president for property & casualty, College Insurance Company, serves as the Immediate Past Chair.

Returning CICA board members are Cheryl Baker, head of North American risk management, Stellantis; David Beyer, director risk management, Alaska Airlines; Courtney Claflin, Minneapolis, MN; and Udo Kappes, head of insurance, RWE AG-Germany.

New board members are Melissa Hollingsworth, chief deputy officer, risk management, Los Angeles Unified School District; Chaz Lavelle, partner, Dentons Bingham Greenebaum LLP; and Adam Miholic, vice president, head of captives and procurement, Revantage.
