Diversification of risk has been at the heart of significant growth in IHG Hotels & Resorts’ captive programme, allowing it to grow from writing four to 20 lines of coverage over the last decade.

That’s according to Marc Bentley, who has led the expansion in size and scope of the programme, speaking to Captive Review in advance of his panel at the CICA conference later today titled ‘The power of diversification: strengthening captives across risk types.’

Bentley has spent 22 years at IHG, his role in this time evolving as IHG has. Today Bentley serves as head of global risk financing, overseeing the group’s captive strategy as well as insurance programmes covering more than 1,100 managed hotels worldwide, over 18 employee benefits programmes and insurance compliance for nearly 7,000 hotels globally.

IHG’s captive journey began with a more fragmented structure. When Bentley first became closely involved in the programme, the company operated three captives with limited transparency across the organisation.
