Rachel Claire Gibson & Ella Pernsteiner proposed a captive structure to help a hotel chain manage multiple insurance challenges from its corporate structure and diverse operations.
TUCSON ARIZ. – MARCH 10, 2025 ─ University of Wisconsin-Madison students Rachel Claire Gibson & Ella Pernsteiner received first-place honors and a $2,500 prize in the 2024-2025 Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) College Student Essay Contest Captive Insurance Solutions for Today’s Risk Management Challenges. The contest is sponsored by Hylant Global Captive Solutions (Hylant GCS). The winner was announced today during the opening session of the CICA 2025 International Conference at the J.W. Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa.
Second place went to Matthew Sharretts and Samuel Brockelman from Connecticut College with a $1,500 prize, and third place went to Isabella Martinez and Skilee Soto from St. Mary’s University with a $1,000 prize.
“I continue to be impressed with the development of the students’ captive knowledge as they progress through the essay contest process,” says CICA President Dan Towle. “Their growing interest in captive insurance is exciting to witness as they take a deep dive into their essay contest case studies.”
