The Captive Review World Domicile Update has for many years kept readers in tune with the captive insurance domiciles that are growing, and how the global captive industry as a whole is performing. In recent editions we have seen strong overall growth in the number of captives and amount of premium written by captives, buoyed by a hardening commercial insurance market.
In 2023, there was a stabilisation in commercial rates, and the US market also had to contend with more intense scrutiny from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) around micro-captives. Yet, these factors didn’t sop continued growth in the global captive insurance market, albeit not quite at the same level as reported in previous years.
