The Captive Review World Domicile Update has for many years kept readers in tune with the captive insurance domiciles that are growing, and how the global captive industry as a whole is performing. 2024 was a year of premium growth. Even as the commercial insurance market began softening in several lines during the second half of 2024, that clearly hasn’t dampened the appeal to captive owners of putting more risk, or even new risks, into an existing captive.
While new formations remain strong, the more notable growth is in their gross written premium.”

North America is once again leading the way as the dominant region for captives, both by number and premium. While the number of new captive formations is down fairly significantly from 2023, as a region, North America continues to pull out and extend its lead over other regions, with domiciles collectively growing the captive count and adding a massive amount of estimated premium to total captive written premium.
