Based on the response to the Captive Insurance Companies Association’s (CICA’s) recent Information Statement Regarding Micro-Captives, CICA has made “Doing Micro-Captives the Right Way” the topic of its 2015 Fall Webinar, 12- 1 p.m. Central Time, Tues., Oct. 6.

“We’ve had a lot of interest in the Information Statement,” said CICA president Dennis Harwick. “As more mid-market companies consider using captive insurance as part of their risk management strategy, companies and their service providers are seeking the best information on structuring a micro-captive to achieve their business goals while avoiding the minefield of potential problems,” Harwick explained.

Webinar speakers Sean King, CIC Services, LLC; Chaz Lavelle, Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP; and Jeff Simpson, Gordon, Fournaris & Mammarella, P.A. will provide guidance on effectively establishing the non-tax purpose of a micro-captive and clarify the risks and concerns when using a micro-captive. They will also outline the business benefits of following best practice guidelines for coverages, premiums, risk management, governance, investments, and claims.

“These practices can be critical to distinguishing a micro-captive as a legitimate insurance company from IRS, regulatory and audit perspectives,” said Harwick, who will moderate the panel.

Webinar registration is free for CICA members. Non-member rate is $50.
