Aggregate stop-loss coverage is most prevalent in conjunction with individual stop-loss deductibles of $250,000 or less.

Due to a spike in catastrophic claims, stop-loss insurance premiums for self-funded employers have increased between 7% to 16% from 2021 to 2023, BenefitsPro reports. A survey, co-sponsored by Aegis Risk and the International Society of Certified Employee Benefit Specialists, found that premiums vary based on the deductible size: an average monthly premium per employee is $193 at a $100,000 deductible vs. $14 at a $1 million deductible. Furthermore, 25% of participants noted a catastrophic claim exceeding $1 million in the past two years.
